Bed race, playoff game, parade on busy weekend

It’s a busy weekend in Davie County, as the community celebrates the beginning of the Christmas season and the Davie High School War Eagles enter the state playoffs as a No. 1 seed.

It all gets started Friday evening, when the War Eagles will take on Southeast Guilford at War Eagle Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Also on Friday evening will be the ‘Twas the Night Before’ Bed Race in Downtown Mocksville, scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Between the two events, thousands of people will be in Mocksville.

And to top it all off, Main Street in the downtown area will be blocked at 5:30, meaning those traveling from the east to the game should expect delays. Or better yet, get to the game via Valley Road to US 601 South instead of traveling into downtown.

The bed races have become hugely popular as teams push homemade beds down the street side by side in competition – often in costume. The races have been televised live for years, and that should happen again this year as WXII has teams in training.

On Saturday, the Hometown Christmas Parade travels down North Main Street into Downtown Mocksville beginning at 2 p.m. See a list of entries on page 9.
