David Lewis Steele Sr.

David Lewis Steele Sr., 81, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Steele was the son of the late Garvie Lewis Steele and Mary Addie Stroud Steele. He was born in Iredell County on May 8, 1935, and attended Harmony High School. He retired from Ingersoll Rand after 33 years. Mr. Steele enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling. He had a love for animals and for listening to gospel and bluegrass music. He participated in church plays and had been a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He also loved watching wrestling and stock car racing. But one of his greatest pleasures was driving his 1968 Mercury Cyclone in the Mocksville Parade which he had done for 40 years, and he was a member of the Piedmont Car Association.

Survivors: his wife of more than 42 years, Helen Faye Hayes Steele; 4 sons, David Lewis Steele Jr. (Debbie), Ricky Lee Steele (Annette), Timothy Dale Steele (Vickie) and Jerry Wayne Bell, all of Mocksville; 3 daughters, Mary Lois Steele Peeler (Todd) of Rockwell, Lisa Diane Steele Dale (Richard) of Mocksville and Angela Michelle Steele Spicer (Mark) of Hamptonville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; and 3 nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.

The family received friends at Davie Funeral Chapel in Mocksville on Saturday, Nov. 12. A celebration of life service was be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral chapel with the Revs. Jerry Gwaltney and Bobby Jones officiating.
Burial followed in Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Olin.
