James William Tucker

James William Tucker, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Davie Medical Center – Bermuda Run.

He was born Aug. 27, 1930, the son of the late Effie Robina Tucker and William McKinley Tucker. On Dec. 24, 1950, he married Texola Miller Tucker and they were in their 66th year of marriage. Mr. Tucker served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War era from February 1951 through January 1953, attaining the rank of sergeant. His career was that of a truck driver, working for Holly Farms, Ingersoll Rand, and Junker Feed Mill. After many years of persevering, he completed high school in 1986.  He was one of the oldest members of Edgewood Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer and was a deacon.

Survivors: his wife and their 3 children, Peggy Sue Tucker Presnell (Larry) of Mocksville, James Clay Tucker (Elaine) of South Carolina, and Wanda Gale Jones (Henry) of Mocksville; a sister, Mary Church (Ray) of North Wilkesboro; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Tucker, and 2 sisters, Laura Mae Tucker and Lucille Tucker Owen.

The family received friends Sunday, Nov. 6 at Davie Funeral Chapel. The celebration of life service was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury.
