Early college production this week

The Davie County Early College High School Performing Arts Club will be presenting the musical “Seussical Jr.”  Nov. 3 and 5 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Redland Road, Advance.

Seussical Jr. is a musical from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty featuring Dr. Seuss characters the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and more. The colorful characters learn about friendship, loyalty, and community while singing and dancing their way through the Jungle of Nool.

It is directed by Benita Finney, and will be shown:

• Thursday, Nov, 3, 6:30 p.m., $10 age 11 and up and $5 age10 and under;

• Saturday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m., same prices; and

• dinner theater, Saturday, Nov. 5, 6:30 p.m. dinner, 7:30 show, $20 and $12, must have pre-sold ticket.

Thursday and Saturday matinee tickets available at the door.

Seussical Jr., incorporates  ideas and characters from at least 15 Dr. Seuss books.Some of the characters have not met before, but they meet in the musical which blends together some of Dr. Seuss’ famous tales. Dr. Seuss encourages helping a friend, keeping a promise, the value of others, keeping peace and the power of imagination.

“This wonderful musical encourages all of these ideas, especially the power of imagination,” said  Benita Finney, director.

The Performing Arts Club of DCECHS has been working for months to bring this show to life.  Students are not only starring in the production, but they have also contributed to painting and creating sets, props, and costumes.
