Mr. Frank Martin Tharpe Sr., 90, of Advance, died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926 in Wilkes County to Conard Cornelius  and Ada Johnson Tharpe. Mr. Tharpe retired from Southern Bell after 42 years.

Survivors: his wife Betty of the home; 2 sons, Frank Martin Tharpe Jr. of Advance and Howard Craig Tharpe of Pfafftown; 3 grandsons, Frank Martin Tharpe III and wife Jennifer, Jacob Craig Tharpe and Tucker Bryce Tharpe and wife Cayce; a great-grandson, Frank Martin Tharpe IV; 2 special former daughters-in-law, Dare Smith Tharpe and Terry Woodall Ramsbotham; a brother, Conard C. Tharpe Jr. and a sister, Hope Tharpe Combs.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with a former fellow Deacon of Reynolda Presbyterian Church, Bob Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
