John William Avery Jr.

John William Avery, Jr., 64, died at his home Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, under the care of Hospice.
He was born in Lincolnton, Dec. 23, 1951, the son of Betty Hughes Avery and the late John W. Avery Sr. He was a proud truck driver for Pilot Freight Carriers for 20 years. He then became owner/operator of J&B construction Co. until retirement in 1998. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in nature. He had an extensive knowledge of cars, old guns, hit and miss motors and loved to pass his knowledge on to others. Another enjoyment was in going to trade lots and flea markets. He loved the art of the deal.
Survivors: his mother, Betty; and loving wife of 18 years, Kathy Joy Whicker Avery; his children, Anne Michelle Ward and husband Lamar, John William “Trey” Avery III and wife Anessa, Jonathan Chad Avery and wife Nicole, all of Lincolnton, Angela Dawn Clodfelter of Supply, and Lori Denise Kagarise of Pittsboro; brothers, David, Steve and Mike Avery; sister, Linda Garner; 9 grandchildren, Zach and Grace Avery, Niki Gilbert, Tara Putnam, Isiah Dion Clodfelter, Dwight Anthony Clodfelter, Maniah Joy Clodfelter, Daysha Hope Smith, and Julian Tyree Kagarise; and 3 great-grandchildren, Madison Shirley, Joceyln Faith Kagarise, and William Daniel Kagarise.
The family received friends Friday, Aug. 12 at Davie Funeral Chapel. The celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bailey’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Advance, officiated by the Rev. Charles Turner. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
