Velma Jean Burnette, 84, formerly of Mocksville, died in Tucson, Ariz., Monday, July 25, 2016.

A native of Austinville, Va., she was born Aug. 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Jack J. and Beatrice Hutton Burnette. Ms. Burnette graduated from college and became a certified public accountant. Her religious background was with the Church of God.

She had no known family and is survived by her friend and attorney-in-fact, Eddie White of Clemmons.

No services are planned. In keeping with her wishes, her cremains are being returned to North Carolina for disposal.
