Mary Ida Glasscock Spillman

Mrs. Mary Ida Glasscock Spillman, 94, of Farmington Road, Farmington, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Willowbrook Healthcare Center in Yadkinville.

She was born Oct. 28, 1921 in Davie County to the late Marshall Everette and Katherine Lodemia Rollins Glasscock. Mrs. Spillman was a graduate of Noah’s Ark School in the Ijames community. She was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church where she was in the Queen Bees Sunday school class, was a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the United Methodist Women and had received the Laity Service award. Mrs. Spillman was a past Worthy Matron of the Farmington Chapter 323 of Order of the Easter Star. She was active in the schools having served as a grade mother and in the PTA and was also active in the community.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William Wilburn Spillman; her stepmother, Ellen Rollins Glasscock; a son, Paul Spillman; 2 brothers, Clyde Glascock and Thomas Franklin Glasscock.

Survivors: 4 children, Hilda Johnson, Carol Hutchins (Jim), Billy Spillman (Paula) and Terry Spillman (Debbie); a daughter-in-law, Connie Spillman; a sister, Jane Glasscock Tutterow (Milton; stepbrother, Marshall Everette Glasscock (Brenda); stepsister, Dorothy Glasscock Taylor of Olin; stepbrother-in-law, Elmer Allen; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Farmington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Arnold Gosnell officiating. Burial followed in Farmington Community Cemetery. The family received friends at the church prior to the service.
