Mrs. Lavone “Von” M. Swicegood, 86, of Arden, formerly of Mocksville, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, after a year-long struggle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1929 in the mountains of Ashe County to the late Everett Wayne and Eva Carrie Trivett Houck. For a number of years, she cared for residents at Fran-Ray Rest Home in Mocksville and continued that care as Fran-Ray transitioned to Davie Place.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Baxter Swicegood; and a brother, Rex Alvas Houck.

Survivors: her daughters, Lynn Bullock of Arden and Karen (Kent) Barnhardt of Anderson, S.C.; grandchildren, Ryan (Ami) Bullock, Brianna Bullock, Carrie (Troy) Penny and Ethan (Elizabeth) Barnhardt; great-grandchildren, Aspen, Linken and Savanna Bullock; 9 brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18 at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. H.D. Houck officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
