Davie County Parks and Recreation Director Paul Moore is pleased with the first event coordinated by the new county department – the Independence Day celebration held Saturday at Rich Park in Mocksville.

Moore estimates that 3,000 people attended, and took advantage of the music, food and games that were available. He praised the volunteers and sponsors, and the residents of Davie County.

He couldn’t believe it, that on clean-up duty the next day, barely a bag full of garbage was collected. Such cleanliness is unheard of in events with so much participation, he said.

And, of course, the fireworks went off without a hitch, a long show that featured some of the newest fireworks available, Moore said.
