James Richard ‘Dickie’ Palmer Sr.

James “Dickie” Richard Palmer Sr., 68, of Advance, died on Saturday May 14, 2016 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

Mr. Palmer was born on Oct. 9, 1947 in Lexington to the late Thurman Palmer and Nell Snider Palmer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in the construction business most of his life and was excellent at drywall finishing. He enjoyed watching baseball and football and listening to rock and roll, especially the Rolling Stones. He loved to drive his 1970 Corvette and hang out with his family and friends, and his dog Bo.

He is also preceded in death by a sister, Betsy Voyles.

Survivors: his wife, Wendy Finlay Palmer of Mocksville; a son, James Richard Palmer Jr. and significant other Laura McAlexander of Raleigh; a step-son, John Dee Dugger of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Autumn Dugger, Braydon Dugger, and Savannah Dugger.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Amvets Post 13 , 423 Marco Blvd., Lexington.   A military graveside service will be held on Monday May 23 at 10 a.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.
