John David Heafner Sr.

Mr. John David Heafner Sr., 79, of Sain Road, Mocksville, died on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.

Mr. Heafner was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Mecklenburg County to the late Arvel Elon and Nola Belva Eller Heafner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Heafner was retired from Rose’s Stores Inc. in 1981 and opened Ben Franklin in Mocksville in October of 1981. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and helped with many activities. Mr. Heafner was an active member of the Civitan Club, Salvation Army and was a Gideon.

He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harry Eller Heafner and James Horace Heafner.

Survivors: his wife, Ouida Gayle Shuman Heafner; 3 children, Melinda Gayle Braddy (Raymond Scott), John David Heafner Jr. (Anne) and Anthony Byrd Heafner (Marion); 5 grandchildren, Lauren Nichole Hagler (T.J.), Sarah Rachel Euart (Chris), Anna Gayle Heafner, Zachery and Zoey Zerull; 7 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alex and Kay Lee Hagler, Emily, Jason and Anthony Euart and Levi Heafner; and a brother, Arvel Elon Heafner (Wilda).

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6 at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
