Edith Marie Turner Chappell

Mrs. Edith Marie Turner Chappell, 89, of Cooleemee, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

She was born Nov. 26, 1925 in Davie County to the late James William and Lula Ellen Martin Turner. Mrs. Chappell was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church in Cooleemee and was a mission-minded person. She was a graduate of Cooleemee High School class of 1943 and received her nursing education at Cabarrus County Hospital school of nursing through the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corps during World War II. Mrs. Chappell retired from the Davie County Health Department with 34 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Conrad Chappell.

Survivors: 3 children, Doug Chappell (Ann) of Jonesville, Lou Anne Chappell Bennett of Lynchburg, Va. and William Chappell (Carol) of Bluffton, Ind.; 4 grandchildren, Julie Reed (Andy), Matthew Bennett (Heather), Angela Lankford (Dan) and Katie Alwes (Marc); 7 great-grandchildren, Brady Reed, Leah Alwes, Adelyn Reed, Luke Alwes, Paisley Bennett, Eyan Lankford and Tucker Bennett; a sister, Ruth Alderman of Kernersville; numerous nieces and nephews; and many family members.

A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26 at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Shelby Harbour officiating. Her body was placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family received friends Sunday, Oct. 25 at Eaton Funeral Home.
