Edna Marie “Miss Edna,” “Nan” Simmons, 81, of Mocksville, died at her home Friday, Aug. 21, 2015.

A native of Wayne County, Pa., she had been a resident of Davie County since 1987. Ms. Simmons had an active life, working in a number of jobs, best known locally as a greeter at Wal-Mart where she worked for some 18 years. She had worked as a CNA at Autumn Care of Mocksville and several other places for short periods of time. Her earlier career which she enjoyed was that of a beautician. She was a reliable community volunteer and was involved in civic activities, to include membership in the local Civitan Club. She attended Calvary Baptist Church on Davie Academy Road.

Survivors: 2 daughters, Rae Marie Clark and husband Gary of Statesville, and Karen Ezzo and husband Richard of Stroudsburg, Pa.; a sister, Mary Jean Scott of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a number of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her precious pet companion, “Mindy Sue.”

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Marie Watson-Wise, who died Sept. 3, 2011.

The family was to receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Calvary Baptist Church (Davie Academy Road). A celebration of life service was to follow at 7p.m.
