The Davie County Senior Services building in Mocksville has a new name – the Bobby H. Knight Senior Center.
County commissioners last week unanimously approved naming the center after the late Knight, who was a commissioner who believed in helping others – including the senior citizens.
Members of his family – including widow Bernice Knight – were on hand for the official announcement.
“This is long overdue,” said Commissioner Richard Poindexter. “Never has a more honest and humble person sat in one of these chairs than Mr. Bobby Knight.”
He credited Knight’s dedication for making the senior center a reality, as well as it being named a North Carolina senior center of excellence.
Commissioner Mark Jones said Knight was always the same – whether at a board meeting, at church, at a youth ball game, or just on the street.
“He never sought anything for himself at all,” Jones said. “It was the way he lived, from his business to his church activities to little league football – everything.”
“He was soft spoken but when he did speak, people would listen,” said Commissioner Dan Barrett. “He was a wonderful man and had a wonderful impact on everyone he met.”
