David Ivan Hobson

Mr. David Ivan Hobson, 80, of Mocksville, died on Saturday, May 16, 2015.

He was born Oct. 28, 1934, to the late William Henry Hobson and Lethia Mickles Hobson. He graduated from East Bend High School in East Bend and then joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, and served in the 82nd Airborne Division until he was honorably discharged in 1956. While in the military, he married Nancy Deloris Portis from Winston-Salem. He was a carpenter for many years and retired as custodian from Davie County High School in Mocksville. He was a golfer. He loved the Lord, his church, especially his family.

Survivors: his wife of 60 years, Nancy; his son, Pastor Kevin Scott Hobson (Sheila) of Mocksville and their 4 sons – Caleb, John, Levi and David (Jennifer), of Southeast, who serves in the U.S. Army, and their daughter, Julie Renee Hobson of South Florida and her 2 daughters – Ariella and Noa; a brother, Gilbert “Troy” Hobson of Winston-Salem, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by 2 brothers – J.W. Hobson and Everette Hobson; and 4 sisters – Gladys Whittaker, Etta Whicker, Mammie Williams, and Mildred Sheek.

Family visitation was Saturday, May 23 at Gospel Baptist Church, 1540 Main Church Road Ext., Mocksville. Family and friends celebrated his life at the church at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 24. Pastor Kevin Hobson officiated. The graveside service followed in the church cemetery with military honors.
