Cross walks planned

Cross Walks – silent walks commemorating the walk of Jesus on Good Friday – will be held in Cooleemee and Advance this year.

The walk in Cooleemee begins at 9:30 a.m. at Refuge Baptist Church in the shopping center, and ends at First Baptist Church on Marginal Street.

“Help celebrate Easter in this special way. Walk with Jesus to the cross,” said Bobby West.

The first Advance Community Cross Walk will begin at 5:30 p.m.  at Shady Grove Elementary School, walk past the old fire station to Underpass Road, turn right and walk to NC 801, turn right and walk to Advance Methodist (one mile).

There will have a van at the rear of the walkers for those who cannot walk the whole way. This is a community event, so invite everyone, all denominations, non-church-goers, children … anybody.

The walk begins with a reading of the events of Jesus’ arrest and trial; then walk in silence; and conclude with the reading of Jesus’ crucifixion and time for participants to share any thoughts or reflections.

“This is a powerful way to reflect on what Christ has done for us,” said Angela Burton, Advance United Methodist secretary.

Area churches and groups have several Easter services and events planned. Read about them in this issue.
