Obits: Elaine Pryce Brown

Mrs. Elaine Pryce Brown, 88, of Mocksville, died Monday, May 12, 2014. 

She was born on April 7, 1926, in Rockingham, to the late Robert Lee and Effie Owen Easterling Pryce. After graduating from Greensboro College, she married Roy S. Brown Jr. and taught at the School for the Blind in Raleigh. They moved to Mocksville where she continued her teaching career. After retirement from teaching, she joined her husband at Mocksville Oil Co. She and Roy loved family, fishing at the coast, their many friends and each other. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mocksville since 1952. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy S. Brown Jr. and a brother, Alva Pryce. 

Survivors: her daughters, Teresa Sterrett and husband Clay of Staunton, Va. and Sandra Howell and husband Charlie of Mocksville; her grandchildren, Bill Sterrett and wife Stephanie of Wilmington, Dave Sterrett of Dallas, Texas, Matt Howell and wife Stephanie of Mocksville, Jordan Howell of Mocksville and Rachel Howell of Wilmington; her great-grandsons, Will, Jack and Graham Sterrett of Wilmington; her siblings, Chip Pryce and wife Barbara of Burlington, Rachel Ellwanger and husband Bob of Rockingham, Henry Pryce and wife Clyde of Kill Devil Hills; sisters and brothers in law, Anne and Don Hinton of Lake Lure and Billie Sue and Emery Hollar of Lexington; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Glenn Myers officiating. The family received friends following the service at the Family Life Center. Burial was in Rose Cemetery.
