KANNAPOLIS — A former Kannapolis police officer and his wife have taken plea deals in a child pornography case.
Steven Anthony Webb and Tracy Ann Webb, who lived in Nottingham Drive, were arrested in July by the FBI. They were each charged with receiving, possessing and distributing child pornography and making false statements.
A criminal complaint said that on July 4, an FBI agent was investigating a file sharing network possibly connected to child abuse and pornography. Investigators say they downloaded pornographic videos with children having sex and found an eight-minute video of a child engaged in a sex act with an adult on a hard drive belonging to the Webbs.
The complaint said Tracy Webb lied to an investigator. A court document filed Dec. 11 said she lied about being recorded having sex with minors.
The same document said Steven Webb was also accused of sexually abusing minors.
On Thursday, Steven Webb pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of accessing and possessing child pornography, according to court documents. Federal prosecutors dismissed four other counts, including charges of receiving and distributing child pornography. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also must register as a sex offender.
Tracy Webb pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony. Prosecutors dismissed a charge of making a false statement in a federal investigation. She faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced March 12 in federal court in Greensboro.
Steven Webb had been an officer with the Kannapolis Police Department since 2008. He was fired July 31.
