Ellis 7th Grader Wins County Spelling Bee

The county’s champion spellers gathered last week to compete in the 2013 Davie County District Spelling Bee, held at the Central Davie Education Center boardroom.
Layne Timidaiski, William Ellis Middle seventh grader, was the winner.
Dr. Danny Cartner, facilitator, told the students, “This is a gathering of champions, much like the Super Bowl, but with nine conferences instead of two.”
The spelling bee is part of the Scripps National and the Winston-Salem Regional Spelling Bees. The winner advances to the regional spelling bee, to be held March 17 at Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in Winston-Salem.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Hartness welcomed the spellers and family members and teachers, and said the nine participants, all winners in their own schools, possessed three qualities to be able to advance: intelligence, concentration, and a great deal of preparation …
