The North Davie wrestling team left no doubt it’s head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. In fact, the Wildcats are perfect.  
North and Ellis met at Davie High last week with all the marbles on the line. Both teams were 6-0 in the league, and this was the final match of the regular season.
But the teams, in a competitive sense, were nowhere near as close as their records suggested. The Wildcats put on a show, winning by a staggering margin of 69-18. They finished 11-0, recording the 16th perfect season in the school’s 32-year history and the 21st regular-season championship.
It almost had to end this way. The Wildcats dedicated their season to Ron Kirk when he died in early January at age 58. Kirk coached North for 31 years (1980-81 through 2011-12). The fired-up Wildcats would have made Kirk proud, claiming 13 of 17 weight classes and getting eight of the 10 pins.
“Once that happened (Kirk suffered a stroke and died about a week later), they decided they were going to wrestle for coach Kirk the rest of the year,” said North coach Jamey Holt, who assisted Kirk for 10 years. “They were all smiles, that’s for sure. It was not just the starters. It was the backup guys and everybody. It was a true team win. Everybody was excited whether they wrestled or not in the match.”
