An Advance man died in a plane crash in Savannah, Ga.
David Erik Wentz, 46, was flying his single-engine, 1968 Cessna 172 from Causey Airport in Guilford County. It went down in a marshy area just after being cleared to land at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport on Sunday, Nov. 18.
The last transmission with airport authorities was at 6:55 p.m. that Sunday. His body was recovered just after 1 p.m. Monday, according to the Athena (Ga.) Banner-Herald.
Wentz had been employed by Honda Aircraft in Greensboro, and had recently taken a job with Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah.
Friends on social media described Wentz as a caring man with a special place in his heart for children and animals. He was past Master of the Farmington Masonic Lodge, president of the Winston-Salem Shrine Club and was a member of Scottish and York Rites. He also volunteered for Pilots ‘N Paws.
He was married to the former Vickie Daywalt. They had two children …
