Two weeks ago, the Davie football team suffered an upset loss to West Forsyth that seemed to suck the air out of the War Eagles.
A week later, they were jumping for joy.
When Davie hosted Mt. Tabor Friday, both teams faced an option: Put up or shut up. The loser would fade from the race for first in the Central Piedmont Conference.
The War Eagles put up a sparkling 24-7 win. Saying this was a big win would be like calling the Grand Canyon a ditch. This was a gigantic win.  
While Tabor fell to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the CPC, the War Eagles improved to 7-2, 2-1 – one game behind North Davidson, which visits Davie on Oct. 26.
“I saw a look in their eye Monday,” Davie coach Doug Illing said. “There was a lot of determination in their faces, and they weren’t going to let that (loss to West Forsyth) get them down and turn them off. It just inspired them more. This gives us confidence that we can play with the best of them.”
After beating nemesis Tabor for just the second time since 2000, the War Eagles had a hard time suppressing their enthusiasm.
“It’s always great beating Mt. Tabor,” right tackle Trip McNeill said. “It’s always one of our toughest opponents.”
