The Davie County Retired School Personnel scholarship winner for 2022 is Deanna Curll, daughter of Angela and Timothy Curll of Byerly’s Chapel Road, Mocksville.

The criterion of the scholarship is that the recipient pursues a career in education.

Curll plans to major in middle grades math education at Wingate University. She would like to be a teacher in Davie County.

Many of her Davie County teachers had a strong impact on her, leading her to want to teach, she said. Curll has maintained a 4.00 GPA and been a four-year honor student.

She has been a member of the National Technical Honor Society, STAND club, and is Servsafe certified in Basic School Aid Certification. She has been a Davie High PTSO student representative and has done a teaching as a profession internship.

“Deanna is a very worthy recipient of the DCRSP scholarship,” said Gladys Scott.

$14,000 More

Curll also received an up to $14,000 scholarship from the Golden LEAF Foundation.

High school seniors entering college as first year students are eligible for a $3,500 scholarship each year for up to four years of undergraduate study at a participating four-year North Carolina college or university.

Recipients from rural, tobacco-dependent or economically distressed North Carolina counties are selected based on career and educational goals, a review of school and community service activities, academic performance, length of residence in the county and expressed intent to contribute to the state’s rural communities upon graduation from college.
