In January 2019, the Davie County Hospital Foundation ended operations and transferred its assets to the Davie Community Foundation for the Davie County Hospital Foundation Fund and the Davie County Hospital Foundation Scholarship.

Applications for Healthcare Scholarships closed June 1, however; the application for Healthcare Grants is open and due June 30.

The Davie County Hospital Foundation Fund accepts applications for Healthcare projects in the areas of Wellness and Prevention; Access and Awareness; and Mental Health and Behavioral Health. Selections are made by a committee comprised of the chair of the Davie County Board of Commissioners, president of Davie Medical Center, and a community member, currently Avalon Potts.

In 2021, the Davie County Hospital Foundation Fund awarded $36,009 for projects that improve healthcare in Davie County. Grants for medical care for low-income and uninsured residents, financial assistance for Davie cancer survivors, pickle ball and basketball courts at Farmington Community Center to keep residents active, and a community mental health initiative through Smith Grove UMC were all approved.

The committee looks forward to considering new projects in 2022, said Jane Simpson, foundation president and CEO.

In addition to healthcare projects, Pearls of Empowerment applications are open with a deadline of Aug. 1.  The Pearls of invite nonprofit organizations to apply for grants that directly benefit women and/or children of Davie County. The goal is to empower Davie nonprofits to provide assistance and/or services for these two critical groups in ways they have been unable to in the past.

Pearls of Empowerment Programs/Projects must focus on: Abuse of Women and Children; Housing for Women and Children; Childcare and Transportation for Women and Children

Both applications may be found on the Davie Community Foundation website at www.daviefoundation.org. Questions regarding either application may be directed to Melissa O’Connor, senior program officer, at moconnor@daviefoundation.org.
