To the editor:
We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Julius Suiter. In our community, he was a beacon of light, a voice of hope, and a pillar of strength. His presence commanded attention, his voice compelled one to listen and his example of citizenship set the bar high for others to follow.
He was not only an esteemed educator and outstanding leader, he was a man of dignity, a man of faith and a great family man. Before Barak and Michelle, Mr. and Mrs. Suiter and their children, Brian and Brooke emerged among so many other good families in our community that made us all proud to be American, and for us, especially African American.
A mighty oak tree has fallen in our community. Its branches provided us rest from the weariness of prejudices, shade from the heat of accusation and the fruit of encouragement to refresh and strengthen us to carry on. We have leaned on its strength and stood straight because of its presence at our back that supported our posture to stand tall, stand strong and stand steadfast.
Its root system runs wide, long, and deep, solidifying the enormity of its impact for generations to come. We will forever hold dear the memory, celebrate the life and continue the legacy of our own, Mr. Julius Suiter. Rest in Peace.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Suiter family. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
