Earnhardt Harris, a sophomore for the Davie boys swim team, earned two victories as the Davie teams finished second in a three-team meet at the Kernersville YMCA on Dec. 10.
Reagan swept the meet, its girls piling up 156 points to Davie’s 77 and East Forsyth’s 62. The male Raiders had 151 to Davie’s 53 and East’s 37.
Harris captured the 50 free at 22.58 and the 100 free at 49.64.
Sophomore Aiden Davis was second in the 100 backstroke, and the 200 free relay was second as senior Jaylen McDaniel, Davis, junior Austin Boswell and Harris teamed up.
“I believe Earnhardt has a lot of natural talent, and when you couple that talent with the hard work he puts in each and every day, success will follow “ coach Lance White said. “He is exciting to watch because I honestly believe he may break a record or two at Davie as well as represent us in upcoming regional and state championships.”
The winner for the Davie girls was sophomore Logan White, who claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.96. White and freshmen Brady Sheek, Elliot Newsome and Sarah Rajacich took second in the 200 medley relay.
“Logan has that young competitive spirit that refuses to lose,” the coach said. “Like Earnhardt, she is a sophomore and has a lot of goals she wants to achieve over the next couple of years.
“Overall the team is really young. With time and the expertise from volunteer coaches Chad Zulegar and Dr. Tak Hirata, we are building a foundation for Davie swim to continue to be competitive for years to come.”
White doesn’t know where the team would be right now without senior Ava Rajacich, who is an extension of the coaching staff.
“This has been an interesting year with their head coach having to step away for medical reasons,” he said. “But the team has a lot of heart. The team captain (A. Rajacich) has been the glue that has held this team together – even the first week when she led the practices despite not knowing whether they would have a season or not. Attitude reflects leadership and she is a positive young lady that has a bright future.”
