Brittani Steger’s JV volleyball team wrapped up another outstanding season last week.
A three-matches-in-four-days stretch began with a nonconference test at Central Davidson on Oct. 11. Davie pulled it out 22-25, 25-21, 15-8.
“They have gotten their money’s worth,” varsity coach Amber Brandon said. “They love to play three sets.”
The War Eagles did everything they could to lose the second set. They overcame serving woes, and then they won comfortably in the third set.
“We missed seven serves in the second set,” Brandon said. “That may be the most missed serves ever from a team that won the set. They are so darn talented that they can do stuff like that and still win.”
Davie won its last two matches easily. The next day at Parkland, it won 25-11, 25-6. At home against Glenn on Oct. 14, it won 25-4, 25-3.
The War Eagles finished 15-3 overall and 11-2 in the Central Piedmont Conference. In Steger’s three years as coach, they are 41-4 and 28-2 in the CPC.
“They’re so talented that they can make several mental mistakes and still be successful,” Brandon said. “When you’re trying to talk to 14- and 15-year-olds – look how many unforced errors we had – it’s hard to get that conversation to resonate.”
