Davie County has received $4.1 million from the American Recovery Plan Act, and expects to receive some $4.2 million more.

Where it will be spent is up in the air, although a full plan is being formulated, Robin West, county finance director told county commissioners last month.

“We want to use them at their highest and best use in conjunction with the county’s strategic plan, as well as community need,” West said.

Commissioners on a motion by Benita Finney approved taking $112,000 from that money to purchase seven Lucas devices, so one will be on every vehicle in the Davie EMS fleet. The devices assist EMTs with chest compressions during cardiac events. Those compressions sometimes take several people, so the devices can save on manpower, limit the number of people coming into contact with a patient, and provide a more stable compression, West said.

The motion passed unanimously.

The county has until Dec. 31, 2024 to spend the ARPA funds.
