This Sunday is Easter.  For some it means a holiday weekend; for some, spring shopping sales; and for some, egg hunts and visits from the Easter bunny.  But, in County Line and for Christians worldwide, most importantly it is “Resurrection Sunday,” the day Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, arose from the tomb after being crucified on the Cross at Calvary. It is a weekend we place spring flowers on the graves of loved ones and our churches have sunrise and other special services.

Due to our state government request to exercise caution to avoid a spike in coronavirus infections, our local churches have these limited scheduled Easter services:

• Calvary Baptist, Easter Sunday worship at 9 a.m. with message by Pastor Terry Myers

• Clarksbury Methodist, Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. in sanctuary; Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., ham/sausage biscuits & boxed cereal breakfast at 8 a.m., and outside worship at 9 a.m. with message by Pastor Cliff Wall followed by an egg hunt for the children

• Piney Grove AME Zion, children’s egg hunt at 3 p.m. Saturday;  Easter sunrise service joint with four other AME Zion churches via conference call at 6:30 a.m. by calling 302-202-1118 and entering code 170392; Sunrise meditation and comments by the Rev. Shelia Chambers of Mt. Vernon AME Zion with additional comments by the Revs. Robin Williams of Siloam, John Phiefer of Piney Grove, and James Boyce of Rocky Creek.

• Pleasant View Baptist, Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. followed by continental breakfast; worship at 8 a.m. with message by Pastor Brandon Gwaltney

• Salem United Methodist, Easter sunrise service with Center Methodist at Center at 7 a.m.; worship at 9:30 a.m. at Salem with message by Pastor John Erwin.

• Society Baptist, Easter Sunday worship at 11 a.m. with message by the Rev.Gene Tutterow.     

Upcoming community events include continuation of Revelations Bible study at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Clarksbury Methodist and Memorial Service for the late Renny Holton at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at Clarksbury.

Janie Williams remains at Forsyth Medical Center. Paul Ressa has received a good report from his doctors at the Mayo Clinic and is recuperating at home.  Faye Stroud continues to rest at home under treatment for cancer.

Join us in prayer for the Lord’s divine healing and blessings upon Janie, Paul, Faye, and others who are having health problems.  Remember in prayer Dwight Moose, whose brother David died Saturday, March 20, after an extended illness.  Also, remember in prayer the families affected by the deadly tornado in Alabama, flood in Tennessee, and gun violence in Colorado and Georgia.  Continue to pray for the families affected by the coronavirus as our state’s coronavirus-related deaths totaled 12,085 as of last Monday.   Pray that folks will exercise caution when around others as medical professionals warn of a possible surge in new infections.
