On the job less than four days, Bobby West, interim department head for the Mocksville Police Department, resigned earlier this week.

He is expected to make a statement in coming days. He had served as the chief of the Cooleemee Police Department for several years.

Less than two days later, the highest ranking officer in the department, Major Koula Black, also resigned. She is on medical leave.

West was the second interim chief to resign in recent weeks. Tim Parks, former Yadkinville Police Chief, resigned at the end of February because of “family obligations.”

Robert D. Bennett, former police chief of Spencer and Tryon, has been
appointed to serve as the temporary interim executive officer of the Mocksville Police Department by Interim
Town Manager Lynn Trivette. He began work on Thursday.

Bennett served in the Statesville
Police Department for 18 years, Spencer Police Chief for 8 years, and Tryon Police Chief for 3 ½ years.
Bennett has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an
associate degree in social science from Brevard College. Bennett is third-generation law enforcement.
“Along with his extended 30 years police career, Interim Executive Officer Bennett brings a poised attitude,
progressive leadership style, and a community approach with him to Mocksville,” said Trivette. “The staff can expect a smooth transition.”
Bennett is excited about the appointment. “I am extremely honored for the opportunity to serve as
the interim executive officer for the Mocksville Police Department,” he said. “I will work hard with the
community and our leaders to keep Mocksville moving in a positive direction.”
