County commissioners last week unanimously adopted a “Resolution for Life,” meaning that the board believes that life begins at conception.

“It’s the right thing to do,” said Pastor Kevin Hobson, who said the right to life was a passion for the Rev. Billy Seats, who passed away in August.

“We are created in the image of God and every time you do the right thing, God will bless the right thing,” Hobson said. “I hope that Davie County can be a county that others can look at and model after. I appreciate all that Brother Billy did and I give God the glory for it.”

“This has been a long time coming,” said Commissioner Mark Jones, who along with wife Gwybn, helped found the Davie Crisis Pregancy Care Center. “As the days move forward, we have to undestand that all life is valuable … and I think this resolution speaks to that.”

The resolution reads, in part:

“declare the full humanity of the preborn child so that innocent human life, including fetal life at every stage of gestation, must always be valued and protected and that society must protect those who cannot protect themselves; and

“declare Davie to be a strong advocate for the preborn where the dignity of every human being will be defended and promoted; and

“encourage appropriate services and resources to assist pregnant women find proper health care; mothers and fathers who make the decision to parent their child; help mothers and fathers who make an adoption plan; and couples who seek to adoption; and

“will use all of the  means within its power to support the sanctity of human life in accordance with the God-given responsibilities as the people’s elected governing body; and

“has a desire via this Resolution for Life, to be recognized as a refuge that truly welcomes and protects the gift of life from conception or fertilization through all stages of development; and

“promote the partnership of citizens, churches, and other social organizations such as the Davie County Pregnancy Care Center to enhance services and resources to mothers and fathers of pre-born children.”
