Lois Ruth (Hall) Hess, 89, of Hamptonville, died Dec. 1, 2019 at Maple Leaf Health Care Center in Statesville.

She was born Sept. 15, 1930 in Yadkin County, the daughter of the late Governor Vance Hall and Molly May (Marh) Hall. She was also preceded by: her husband, Lonzo Jefferson Hess; a son, Barry Gray Renegar; brothers, Clerence, Holbert, Garland, Glenn, and Leon Hall; and sister, Lorraine Pardue.

She was an all-star basketball player in Yadkin County Schools. She worked as a spinner at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis for 30 years. She loved playing the spoons, singing and making music with family.

Survivors: her sons, Lonnie Dean Renegar (Sarah) and Earl Douglas Renegar of Hamptonville; daughters, Rita Ann Presley (Darrell) of Kannapolis, and Bobbie Joe Speaks (Billy) of Hamptonville; sisters, Betty Lou Templeton, and Shirley Short; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. A graveside service was held at 11:30 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove, with Pastor James Miles officiating.
