Mr. John Robert Butero, 82, of East Maple Avenue, Mocksville, died on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

He was born April 23, 1937 to the late John and Anna Hotzak Butero in New York City, N.Y. Mr. Butero was known in Mocksville because of his position as assistant dispatcher for Davie County Emergency Services, where he retired after 30 years. Before he spent nearly 20 years as director at WDSL, where he went by “Johnny Roberts.” He also served six years in the Army Reserve and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by: a grandchild, Crystal Butero; and a niece, Karla Osborne.

Survivors: his wife of 55 years, Lela Jones Butero of the home; 2 sons, John Edward Butero (Paula), and Michael Jeffrey Butero (Donna), all of Mocksville; 2 granddaughters, Christina and Ashley; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Layell; a sister-in-law, Joanne Osborne (Karl); a niece, Amanda Osborne; and 2 nephews, Joey and Charlie Osborne.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nolan Johnson officiating. 
Burial will  follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Eaton Funeral Home.
