Three threats to Davie schools in as many weeks?

Well, sort of.

After the most recent threat, a Cooleemee woman, Rachelle Amy Beaver, 31, of Davie Street, was charged with obstructing justice. She is scheduled to face the charge Nov. 14 in Davie District Court.

Sheriff J.D. Hartman reported that on Sunday, Sept. 29 at about 8:30 p.m., Beaver posted on Facebook: “Attention parents: A threat has been made by a student to shoot up Davie High School tomorrow! It came across the police scanner.”

She admitted to investigators that she based the post on rumors, Hartman said, using previous incidents that had already been handled.

The first two incidents stemmed from individual fights, and there was never a real threat to the general school population. Investigators talked to a juvenile and others in those cases, and appropriate actions were taken, he said.

“Don’t help propogate rumors if you don’t have the facts,” Hartman said. He also suggested that if someone has credible facts about a threat, they should call the sheriff’s department and not post to Facebook. That makes it more difficult to investigators. If there is a known threat, the sheriff’s department will report it to the public and to parents.

He said the public should also know that the department does not release information as to the culprits when juveniles are involved.
