On Monday, Oct. 7, Davie County Senior Services was recognized at the county commissioner’s meeting for being the 2019 Ann Johnson Senior Center of the Year Award winner.

The award is named in honor of the late Ann Johnson for her dedication, work, and vision that helped pave the way for seniors and those who work with older adults. The annual award goes to senior centers making significant contributions that address and elevate issues important to the field of aging through advocacy or other methods that make a positive impact affecting older adults.

In addition to the award, Davie County Senior Services received a $300 check that will go toward continuing to make life better for seniors in Davie County.

“Receiving the 2019 Ann Johnson Senior Center of the Year Award from The North Carolina Senior Center Alliance is only a confirmation of our staff at Davie County Senior Services going above and beyond to serve our citizens,” said John Eller, county manager.

This award would not have been possible without the staff, but also the committed seniors in the county who actively participate in events and volunteer opportunities.

“The Board of County Commissioners and county administration are so proud of the work they do each and every day. Also, we need to thank our seniors who actively participate in our programs. By partnering with our all-star staff, our seniors help make our senior center successful. We are all truly blessed to have such a great resource here in Davie County,” Eller said.

“We are very honored to be recipients of this year’s award,” said Kim Shuskey, aging & adult services director. “We are grateful for the support from our county administration, as well as the many volunteers who help us to carry out our mission.  We also want to thank our participants who come each day to support the programming and services that are offered at Senior Services.”
