Special Olympics Davie County kicked off Fall with its annual Pumpkin Carving Party on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Approximately 50 athletes, family members and friends attended.

Parker Prysiazniuk, Kristina Prysiazniuk, Brandi Reagan and Justin Draughn formed a panel of community judges to select winners in four categories.

Kaylee Morris, a cheerleader, bowler and runner for SODC, won Best Overall with her Kiki the Witch creation.

Other pumpkin masters included Sarah Riddle who won the Youth Category with her “Melinda” the pumpkin; Jill St. Clair who won the Adult Category with her pink unicorn pumpkin; and Ava Brown who won the Friends and Siblings category with her starry eyed jack-o-lantern.

Each year the event has grown in popularity with participants raising the bar on their creativity, artistry and carving. Attendees were treated to a hotdog and dessert meal courtesy of Davie Civitans.

For the remainder of the month, athletes will continue to train for roller skating, tennis and golf. They will compete at the Special Olympics NC Fall Tournament in November.
