The SBI is investigating vandalism at the home of a Mocksville Town Board member.

Amy Vaughan-Jones reported that overnight last Monday or Tuesday, someone had placed a dead black snake on her mailbox, and damaged a “Ward for Town Board” sign in her yard.

Mocksville police were dispatched to the scene and began an investigation, but the SBI took over that probe the same afternoon at the request of District Attorney Garry Frank.

An unofficial report had been made a few weeks earlier of cat feces being placed on the door of Brent Ward, a fellow town board member who lives on the same street as Vaughan-Jones.

Both have been critical of the police department in recent months.
