Mrs. Coleen Carson Gaither, 77, of Mocksville, died on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019.

She was born May 8, 1942 in Iredell County to the late Crayton and Lolean Cockerham Carson. Mrs. Gaither attended Davie County Schools, was a graduate of Davie County Training School and received her CNA from DCCC. Her employment included Miller’s Restaurant, Fox Textile, William R. Davie Elementary School and Davie High School. She was a school bus driver for 43 years. At an early age, she joined New Calvary Holiness Church where she had served as youth president, choir member, building fund treasurer and in any capacity she was needed. Word search puzzles, cooking, church and caring for her family were the things she loved.

She was also preceded in death by: her husband of 53 years, Gordon Gaither, who died in 2007; a son, Bradford Gaither; and a brother, Billy H. Carson.

Survivors: daughter, La Shonda Coleen Gaither; 5 sons, Gordon Gaither (Sharon), Dwayne Chunn, Larry Gaither, Steve Gaither (Wanda) and Bruce Gaither; 6 stepchildren, Lafreda McClelland, Sherry McClelland, Donna White (Raywood), Dennis Redmon (Vanessa), Michael Glover (Rosa), and Cynthia Glover; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy L. Sherrill; and special aunts, Josephine Dalton, Eloise Cockerham and Rosa Lee Arnold.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 24 at New Calvary Holiness Church at 3 p.m. Overseer Charlene Jones will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
