Mrs. Dorothy Johnson Holmes, 91, formerly of Madison Road, Mocksville, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 at Autumn Care of Statesville.

Mrs. Holmes was born on Oct. 6, 1927 in Iredell County to the late William Filo Cooper Johnson and Cynthia Elizabeth Mayberry Johnson. On Jan.  25, 1947, she married Clarence Fraley Holmes. They moved to Mocksville in 1950. She worked at Belt’s Inc. in Mocksville for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Center United Methodist Church and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2008.

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 62 years, Clarence Fraley Holmes; her son, Joseph Fraley Holmes; and her granddaughter, Shannon Alyssa Holmes.

Survivors: her daughter, Cathy Holmes Maraz (Ron) of Huntersville; her granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Holmes of Mocksville; her brother, Parks Johnson of Statesville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin H. Jasper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Eaton Funeral Home.
