Mr. J. Roy Foster, 93, of Advance, died Sunday, May 5, 2019.

He was born July 13, 1925, to the late Samuel Roy and Pearl Belle Smith Foster.  Mr. Foster was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II as a Sherman tank crew member with the 3rd Armored Division.  Mr. Foster worked at T&L Trucking for more than 40 years as a semi-truck mechanic and could repair almost anything.  He grew sweet corn and gave it away to his family, friends and neighbors, and was known for making and giving away peanut brittle.

He was also preceded in death by: his wife, Mitzi Marie Gregory Foster; and siblings, Margie Sofley, Helen McDaniel, Taylor Foster and Eugene Foster.

Survivors: 2 children, Garry Foster (Anne) of Advance and Vicki Rintz (Billy) of Elon; 5 grandchildren, Emily Rintz Totherow (Todd), Jason Rintz, Sam Foster, Will Foster and Clayton Foster; 2 great-grandchildren, Russell and Wesley Totherow; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 9 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chuck Baker and Billy Rintz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
