Jessica Roselind “Ronney” Steele, 90, of Bear Poplar, died on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

She was born Oct. 3, 1927 in Wake County to the late Jesse Vann Holloman and Bessie Cowand Holloman. Mrs. Steele was a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh and attended UNC-Chapel Hill where she was studying and doing an internship as a social worker when she met her future husband, Robert Hall Steele. Mrs. Steele was a homemaker and worked in the family store, Steele Feed and Seed, with her husband. Later in life Mrs. Steele and her husband traveled widely. Mrs. Steele was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church where she served as organist for nearly 30 years, served as treasurer and as a Deacon.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hall Steele, on Dec. 25, 2016.

Surviving: 2 sons, Robert Vann Steele and wife June of Mocksville, and John Ridley Steele and wife Joyce of Bear Poplar; daughter, Mary Margaret Steele of Wake Forest; brothers, Richard Holloman of Hickory, David Holloman and wife Keiko of Raleigh, and Joe Holloman and wife Becky of Rocky Mount; sister, Mary Margret Daughtridge of Greensboro; 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Steele Patterson and husband Jared and Margaret Steele and husband Brandon Davis; 5 great-grandchildren, Melanie Steele, Emily Patterson, Benjamin Patterson, LilyHope Patterson,  Samuel Patterson; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Thyatira Presbyterian Church followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m.; conducted by the Rev. Stacey Steck.
