Ralph Lamar Smith

Ralph Lamar Smith, 87, of Mocksville, died on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

A native of Scottsdale, Ga., he was born Sept. 24, 1930, the son of the late William L. and Gladys Bingham Smith. He was the widower of Barbara Jean Rattz Smith who died Jan. 28, 2015, after more than 57 years of marriage.

The Smiths were charter members of Victory Baptist Church in Cooleemee. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired machine operator with Owens-Illinois Corp.

Survivors: 2 sons, Timothy L. Smith and wife Nancy of Mocksville, and Joel C. Smith and wife Carla of Tennessee; a granddaughter, Jenna Smith Frogge and husband Michael of Richlands; 2 great-grandchildren, Payton Nicole and Emmajean Grace Frogge; and a brother, Mark James Smith of Texas. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William L. Smith, and a sister, Olga Lee Harris.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m.Monday, Jan. 15 at Victory Baptist Church. Pastor Shelby Harbour and the Rev. Mike McDaniel will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Mr. Smith will be buried beside his wife in Turrentine Baptist Church Cemetery.
