Mocksville board members will again discuss naming a road in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This time, it is Campbell Road, which includes a historically black neighborhood and school.

The Davie NAACP was canvassing residents of Campbell Road to get their reaction to the potential change, said Mayor Will Marklin. The board is expected to discuss the issue at their meeting Tuesday.

The board in August denied a request from the Davie NAACP to rename Depot Street Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. Depot Street business owners argued that an address change would be costly, and possibly hinder business, especially online searches for a particular business. Some argued that Depot Street was already a historic name.

Board members learned at their October meeting about a new marketing plan for the town, videos produced through the CGI Communications and the National League of Cities.

“It’s a free opportunity to get nice videos of the town (for the town website),” said Town Manager Marcus Abernethy.

CGI would own the videos, and also get sponsors, or advertisements. Board members expressed some concern that the town would have no control over the sponsors, and suggested some type of notice be posted.

Town Attorney Al Benshoff  said several changes to the contract needed to be made, and board members agreed to the proposal with Benshoff’s recommendations.
