The 7th Successful Back 2 School Empowerment Day was held this year at the Central Davie/Clyde Studevent Gymnasium on Saturday, Aug. 19.

“This year there was an overwhelming request for assistance with over 500 pre-registrants via website (www.kofom.org) and over 100 registrations on site at the day of the event,” said Angelia Ijames, one of the organizers.

Keys of Faith Outreach Ministry, is the official outreach function of New Jerusalem Apostolic Church.  The mission is to enhance the quality of life by addressing the religious, socio-economic, promoting the prevention of cruelty to children, educational, recreational and vocational needs of the community as a source of healing, restoration and empowerment through programs, services and activities.

The Back 2 School program is the base program.

The Back 2 School Empowerment Day would not be possible without the collaboration of churches, businesses, organizations, individuals and our devoted volunteers.  “Together with teamwork, we make the dream work.”

“Get Ready, Get Set, To Succeed!” is the motto for the initiative.  During previous events there was a program format presented to provide a platform to motivate, inspire, and educate students on how to be successful in the upcoming school year as well as equip them with what is necessary – a book bag filled with supplies. Due to the high request for assistance this year, it was decided to allocate the resources to focus on meeting the greater need of the students.

The community collaboration ended with more than 550 students receiving free book bags filled with school supplies, a hotdog and water.  Currently requests for book bags are still being made.
