The Davie tennis matches last week went according to plan. Davie ripped apart West Rowan and Lexington to run its nonconference record to 3-0.

The War Eagles beat host West Rowan 8-1 on Aug. 22. The winners in singles: 10-1 by No. 1 seed Laura Becker, 10-1 by No. 2 Amanda Ngo, 10-0 by No. 3 Sierra Foster, 10-1 by No. 4 Aubree Privat and 10-0 by No. 6 Grace Nixon. Becker/Ngo (8-1), Foster/Privat (8-4) and Nixon/Moriah Lane (9-7) wrapped up the 23rd straight win over the Falcons. Davie has outscored West 177-19 during the streak.

The only suspense came at No. 3 doubles. Nixon/Lane were behind 4-1 before reeling off eight of the final 11 games.

Three days later, the War Eagles played their home opener at their old home (South Davie Middle School). They smashed Lexington 9-0, a matchup that mirrored the one from 10 days earlier.

The scores in singles: 10-0 by Becker, 10-0 by Ngo, 10-0 by Foster, 10-0 by Privat, 10-2 by Emery Rosenbaum and 10-0 by Nixon. Davie followed with three 8-0 shutouts in doubles: Lane/Aisulu Ball at No. 1, Sydney Smith/Laura Newsom at No. 2 and Ava Montebello/Maddie Owen at No. 3.

Davie obviously hasn’t broken a sweat against Lexington and West Rowan. That will change soon.

“We’re preparing for big matches coming up (against Page, Reynolds and West Forsyth),” coach Collin Ferebee said. “I know Page is always strong, so we’ve had that one circled for a long time. We’re especially looking forward to starting our conference season. I think we’re ready for it.”
