ADVANCE – Need some Girl Scout cookies?

Ready to get an early start on Christmas shopping and support local business?

Need to get the kids outside to burn some energy?

Hungry for some Advance barbecue and famous banana pudding?

Would you like to know more about emergency services in Davie County?  Would your young son or daughter like to see a fire truck?

You can do all of these things at one place on Saturday.  The Advance Community Festival will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  at 169 Fire Station Road with parking at the Advance United Methodist Church.

“The festival is sponsored by the Advance Fire Department Auxiliary in cooperation with Advance United Methodist Church and is designed to celebrate the community and highlight emergency services and provide families with a fun day right here at home,” said Benita Finney, organizer.

“We are extremely blessed and excited about the number of emergency service agencies that have agreed to come and participate in the festival.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for children to meet and ask questions of our hometown heroes and be able to learn more about what they do for our community.”

The festival will open at 10 a.m. and lunch will be available beginning at 11 am.  Lunch menu includes:  barbecue sandwiches, hotdogs, chips, drinks, and banana pudding.

There will be bounce houses and games for the youngsters, shopping for mom, and destruction of cars for dad. Many emergency service agencies will be on hand and will be conducting demonstrations throughout the day.

The Davie County Sheriff’s canine officers will conduct demonstrations and DC Rescue Squad will conduct extrication demonstrations.

Madame Whimsie Storytelling and Treasures will be sharing at 10:45 and 12:30.

Karate International of Advance will demonstrate karate and self defense.

There are multiple vendors confirmed with wares from handmade crafts, to health and beauty products, to leather goods.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and lots of great door prizes, including an Android tablet and lots of other prizes donated by participating vendors. Admission and most activities are free.
