Nancy Peters Rudy, 75, of Mocksville, died with her children by her side on Dec. 8, 2016.

Survivors: her siblings, Patricia (Luella) Sumner of Hurricane , W.Va., Joetta Brand of Conroe, Texas, Vernon (Butch) Peters and her children, Geoff (Beth) Rudy of Clemmons, Theresa (Greg) Rieves of Kernersville,  and grandchildren, Ben Rudy and Clarke Rudy.

She is predeceased by her husband, George Herr Rudy III, and her parents Helen Estelle Collins Peters and Charles Hubert Peters.

Born Aug. 8, 1941 near Hurricane, she was the youngest child of Helen and Hubert Peters. She graduated from Hurricane High School in 1959. She met her husband, George, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a Navy pilot and the couple spent time in Bermuda, Maryland, New York and California before settling in North Carolina to raise their two children. His career with federal/state government led them to move to Atlanta and Washington DC, before again returning to North Carolina. In the midst of moving and raising children, she returned to school to earn her associate degree from Richmond Technical Community College in 1980 and became a registered nurse. She enjoyed a 30+ year career in a variety positions including IV technician, emergency room, occupational nursing, nursing home inspector and medical/surgical nursing. In recent years, as a devoted mother/grandmother, she loved traveling (especially to Bermuda and Key West), reading, and opening her home to friends and family. She liked to see others having a good time and making people laugh. She was feisty, fun, and made friends where ever she went. In her fashion, she requested a party filled with love and laughter rather than a somber memorial service.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at Finnegan’s Wake in Winston Salem on Dec. 30 from 6-9 p.m.
