Senior Hunter Thurlo and sophomore Alexa Hutton won two events each and junior Victoria Sinopoli added another victory for the Davie swim teams in a home meet against Reynolds on Dec. 7.

The Demons had no trouble defeating Davie’s teams. Their girls had 116 points to Davie’s 50, and their boys had 121.5 to Davie’s 42.5.

But it was still a productive day for the War Eagles, whose boys and girls finished first or second in 14 events.

“Reynolds is a really strong team and has some excellent swimmers, so it was nice to be able to see us win some of those events,” coach Jennie Kimel said.

Thurlo of the Davie boys captured the 200 freestyle at 2:02.78 (the runner-up was 2:08.35) and the 500 free at 5:27.02 (the runner-up went 5:37.47). Hutton of the Davie girls won the 50 free at 27.47 and the 100 free at 1:00.23 (second place was 1:03.67).

“It was no surprise that Hunter and Alexa won their two events,” Kimel said. “They are both extremely hard-working, and I believe that has paid off for them this season.”

Davie’s fifth victory came on the girls’ side from Sinopoli, who claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:07.22.

“Victoria usually swims the 100 fly and does really well, so it was nice to see her swim a different event and still be able to place first,” she said.

For the Davie girls, Katie Shoaf was second in the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Sinopoli was second in the 200 individual medley. Sinopoli, Riley White, Hutton and Mackenzie Umberger finished second in the 200 medley relay. Umberger, White, Shoaf and Hutton finished second in the 200 free relay.

On the boys’ side, Wyatte Copeland was second in the 50 free and 100 free. Adam Gledhill was second in the 100 backstroke. Copeland, Mikhail Harris, Micah Little and Thurlo were second in the 200 medley relay.
