On Nov. 17, the Bermuda Run Garden Club hosted the annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for exceptional children of Davie County.

A total of 230 children from elementary, middle, and high schools, their teachers and assistants were in attendance.

Peggy Schuppert, club president, welcomed everyone and introduced Sara Davis, EC Program teacher, who was in charge of the musical program. Students from Pinebrook, Shady Grove, Ellis Middle School, South Davie Middle School, and Davie High School entertained the group with Christmas songs and a poem. Students from William R Davie, Mocksville, Cooleemee, and Cornatzer Elementary Schools brought colorful posters that they had made to thank the club for the luncheon.

Special guests were Jackalyn White, PBIS coordinator; Lydia McCabe, EC program specialist; and Lee Rollins, Bermuda Run town manager. A Thanksgiving blessing before the meal was given by Linda Ernst.

This year’s Thanksgiving luncheon was co-chaired by Bermuda Run Garden Club members Sue Whittaker and Luanne Taylor.

Bermuda Run Country Club supports the annual event by providing the venue. The country club wait staff, under the leadership of James Crawford, assisted in serving turkey, green beans, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, rolls and beverages. Holiday cupcakes and cookies were dessert. Lowes Foods Kinderton and store manager, Matthew Bratton, and assistant manager, Tom Lehman, donated 80 pounds of turkey and assisted in serving.

Students and teachers enjoyed seeing many works of art made by students for previous years’ luncheons that were displayed in the foyer and dining room and which provided fun and festive seasonal decorations for the event.

“Providing and sharing this special day with the students and teachers has become one of the highlights of the year for both the garden dlub and the Bermuda Run Country Club staff,” Schuppert said. “Everyone associated with this event appreciates the opportunity of being able to share and give back to Davie County Schools. The best part of this special day were the smiles and happy thank yous that rang out as Bermuda Run Garden Club members waved goodbye to the students and teachers as they boarded the buses to return to their schools.”
